Montiferru Reverie

as a 8.25"x11" hardcover book.

Sculpted by Time book cover

Mountains exist as monumental presences in our world. They have dignity and, among other features, are solid, stable, and unmoving. The mountain’s physical presence surrounds us and shapes our perception of reality. To truly understand and appreciate a mountain’s essence requires more than just observation; it calls for the use of imagination. To grasp it, you must see it from different points of view, both as a whole and on its own in a variety of physical perspectives to truly understand its distinctness and unity. Montiferru Reverie presents 73 paintings, 4 black and white drawings, and 4 poems, all created on location, en plein air, on the Montiferru mountain and surrounding area in Western Sardinia. The mountain landscape’s ephemeral quality shapes the images, capturing the mood and feeling of a moment in time. Looking at paintings of a mountain becomes the representation of the world itself. A reality grasped through works of art. Painting is a way to see the mountain. It is part of a conversation with the place. This mode of painting is a philosophical reflection on the mountain, exploring its essence. Thinking in paint!

The book's text are in both English and Italian.

The book has 73 images, 4 black and white drawings, and 4 poems, and is 103 pages in length.

The Dolomites in Summer

The Dolomites in Summer cover

The Dolomites in Summer is an immersive visual journey through the Pale Mountains an extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ethereal beauty and enchanting legends. Through 59 photographs and 58 drawings created en plein air this collection of images explores the ever-shifting interplay of light, color, and form that defines the Dolomite landscape. Capturing jagged peaks veiled in mist, verdant meadows, and dramatic skies, Woolf's work transcends mere representation to reveal the metaphysical essence of the mountain. Mountains are not just physical landmarks but are dynamic symbols of reality itself. Woolf's watercolors, sketches, and photographs emphasize the tension between the tangible terrain and his personal vision, capturing moments of atmospheric mystery and grandeur that evolve with changing weather and light. This book is both an artistic tribute and an invitation to contemplate the deeper "Idea of Mountain" - a reality glimpsed through attentive engagement, a patient eye, and creative spirit. Ideal for lovers of landscape art and photography, it offers a profound reflection on how nature's majesty can be grasped and celebrated through the enduring language of art.

Sculpted by Time book cover

Sculpted by Time focuses on the human face through evocative portraits of older people articulating the spirit and emotion of their journeys. The themes and emotions that I capture in my portraits portray wisdom, resilience, joy, and vulnerability; all connected to broader human experiences and life’s passage. I am interested in exploring aging as a natural and enriching part of human existence, acknowledging the beauty and dignity inherent in each stage of life. I challenge societal perceptions of aging and I feel a sense of appreciation and reverence for the stories etched into the lines and features on these faces sculpted by time. In a world focused on celebrating youth and obsessed with the need to appear young at all costs, each of these faces represents in my eyes a map where every wrinkle contains a story; every fold of flesh reveals the vicissitudes of a long life; and the eyes, sometimes sad, sometimes lively, speak of joys and sorrows and dreams now distant.

The book's Introduction and Preface are in both English and Italian.

The book has 82 images, 42 paintings and drawings, 40 photographs and is 99 pages in length.

At the Millennium's End

as either 1) a Kindle ebook, or 2) a 8.5" x 11" paperback book.

At the Millennium's End cover

The ethos of small figurative art lies in its unique ability to convey profound emotional human experiences within a compact and intimate format. This form of art connects viewers to a long history of human expression. Small figurative artworks invite up-close-and-personal examination, in a way that large-scale artwork cannot, and is effective in providing viewers with a tactile, human experience with diverse layers of complexity, inviting mindfulness, and allowing slow examination. The pieces in this book appeared in the national juried exhibition Current Small Figurative Work in the United States in 1998 and provide a glimpse into small figurative art in the waning days of this past century. There is a brief preface on small-figurative art, and a discussion about the pieces in the exhibition. Each artwork also has the artist's statement about their work. These artworks straddle the line of realism, imagination, and abstraction that connects the known and unknown. It demonstrates the peculiar power and expansiveness of small-scale figurative art.

The book's Introduction,  Preface, and afterwords are in both English and Italian.

The book has 21 images, and is 63 pages in length.

Travelled Landscapes

I have just approximately 100 short films on my "Travelled Landscapes" web site. In the title sequence of each video is an image I painted or sketched on location related to the video from my worldwide travels.
