The Art of Bill Woolf

I make books about what I paint, draw, photograph, as I live and travel, as well as make short videos about all I see.

My painter's vision is not reality, but a perspective on the infinitely interesting world around us. Most of my paintings and drawings begin en plein  air.  Images is a narrative, an engagement in discovering the world we live in, a  world of abstraction, chaos, and color. So much of this world lies just below the surface, unseen, hidden in barely visible traces manifesting itself in color and form.

Exploring the world through traveling widens my perspective as an artist and moves one in many ways…as a painter. It is useful to stop the usual routine and travel so your mind rests as you let other parts of yourself have a freer rein...it opens up the mind giving it a flexible mentality…it lets you see how different people and cultures survive on this vast globe…it helps one to interpret the world by understanding others and their different lives. My books, images, and short films show this diverse world, its landscapes, both natural and human-made…and its people.
