About Bill Woolf

I am an American artist living on the island of Sardinia in Italy. I have taught painting, drawing, graphic and computer arts, among many other subjects, in both the United States and Italy. I studied art at The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (late 80s) and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (early 90s). I have a Ph.D. from Cornell University and was a practicing psychotherapist before art occupied all my life and resulted in my returning to school for an MFA in Studio Art which I received from Florida State University in 1999. I arrived in Italy at the end of 1999 and taught in Florence for 5 years. I have been making small digital internet movies since arriving in Italy. I liked those small in size (360 x 240 pixels or smaller) and short in filming time (35 seconds or less) movies that most digital still cameras allow you to take. These days the resolution and length of time have increased. My current internet movie camera is a Sanyo Xacti that can even film HD size digital video to SD media. This art of personal miniature movie-making forces you to think about what you are filming and what you are missing. I combine short clips into short movies, perfect for watching over the internet or on your iPod. During the last several years I have been filming a documentary on the tradition of the confraternities in Santu Lussurgiu (the villiage where I live) making palms for Palm Sunday.
